Iqaluit (Capital of Nunavut) – 7,542 people Iqaluit means “place of fish”, and is located on the southern portion of Baffin Island on Koojesse Inlet, Iqaluit is the largest community in Nunavut and the gateway to the Arctic from Eastern Canada.
Nunavut is home to the world’s northernmost permanently inhabited place, Alert. 15. Quttinirpaaq National Park is the second most northerly park on Earth. In Inuktitut, Quttinirpaaq means “top of the world.” That sure makes sense!
