What does the SHSAT consist of?
The SHSAT is composed of a Revising/Editing section, a reading comprehension section, and a math section. This course focuses solely on the math portion of the SHSAT. Most students take the SHSAT in the beginning of their 8th grade year.
What is tested on the SHSAT?
SHSAT content and length: The SHSAT is a timed, pencil-and-paper test and has two 57-question sections: English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. Students have 3 hours to complete the test and may use their judgment in determining how much time to spend on each section. There are 4 multiple choices per question.

Is the SHSAT the only admission criterion for specialized high schools?
The Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) is the only criterion for admissions to 8 of the 9 New York City Specialized High Schools. The only exception is the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, which requires an audition or portfolio for admission.
